Here is a look at how I installed the canopy on the Ultra Sport .40 ARF.

After I painted the pilot and put on the dash decal. It was time to mount the canopy. I use a simple system to mount cowlings as well as canopies. I use a plastic tube and glue it in place so the screws are in plastic rather than wood. Over time screws that are in wood will work lose mainly because of fuel soaking at the cowling and vibration at the canopy.

I look for two areas that I can place a solid tube from one side to the other. Since the front is hard to get to I will drill a 1/8" hole and slide the tube in from the outside.

The rear hole is going to be easy to get to so I will put the tube in place from the inside. Here I will drill a 1/16" hole.

Here is a close look at the holes.

Once I have the holes drilled and the plastic tube glued in place. I am ready to mount the canopy. I have already put the black canopy trim tape on in this picture. but, you can see it is easy to mark the screw holes for the canopy. After they are marked, drill them out.

Then put on the canopy trim tape. Then I take a piece of 1/16" size piano wire and heat the end and push it through the hole in the canopy from the inside out. This makes a clean hole in the trim tape. Then I put in 4 canopy screws with small washers.

Here is a look at the mounted canopy. If the canopy needs to be removed for any reason. It can be with no problem. Remember you can use this same system to mount your cowlings.
