If you have the old style 30cc Homelite cylinder then you will want to click Here
Building the New style 30cc Homelite.
Before you make the first change on your engine. It is a good idea to blueprint it so you know where the numbers are. (Make a note of the Intake, Exhaust, Transfer ports timing as well as the head clearance.) Once you have these noted you then can start your hopup.
If you are not sure how to do this you can learn more about how to check the timing by

Here is a close look at the New Homelite cylinder design. The cylinder transfer
ports are much larger than on the old cylinder. Below are some pictures of the
cylinder after it has been modified.
Here is a look inside the cylinder. The first step is to raise the
compression. (lower the piston/head clearance) This is done by removing material
from the cylinder base so the cylinder can be lowered.
Note: When I raise
the compression I also remove the squish band. This allows me more control of
the piston/head clearance.
The intake is a little higher on the new design then on the older style
cylinder. So in many cases the intake port will be raised enough after you have
lowered the piston/head clearance.
To change the intake port timing you
will remove material from the bottom of the intake port.
Here you can see the exhaust port has been cut.
Note: To change
the exhaust port timing you will need to remove material from the top of the
exhaust port.
Here is a look inside the cylinder after the changes. The bright spots
mark areas that have been cut.
Note: Never remove material from the sides
of the intake or exhaust ports as this will make the ports wider and could allow
the ring/rings to pop inside the ports and damage the engine.
Here is a look at the stock block before the transfer ports are
modified. You can cut the transfer ports on the block to match the ports on the
cylinder.
Here you can see I have only cut what was needed to match the ports on
the cylinder.
